Number of Admitted Students
The maximum number of students admitted to the Postgraduate Program (M.Sc.) each year is forty (40), while the minimum is fifteen (15).
Members of the categories E.E.P. (Special Educational Personnel), E.DI.P. (Special Teaching Staff), and E.T.E.P. (Laboratory Teaching Staff) may, upon request, be admitted as supernumerary students—only one per year and per M.Sc. Program—provided they serve in the respective department and their academic degree and work are relevant to the subject of the M.Sc. program.
Admission Requirements
To be eligible for admission, candidates must fulfill the following requirements:
a) A degree/diploma from a Higher Education Institution (HEI) in Greece or an equivalent recognized foreign institution. The foreign awarding institution and degree type must be listed in the National Registry of Recognized Foreign Institutions and Titles (as published on the DOATAP website).
b) Proficiency in one of the following languages at a B2 level: English, French, German, Italian, or Spanish.
Application Process for Admission
Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH), upholding the principles of equal opportunity and inclusiveness, allows all qualified individuals to apply.
An official call for applications is published on the Department’s website by the School Assembly, detailing application deadlines, required documents, and submission procedures.
Applications are submitted electronically, and processing is done digitally. Candidates must follow the instructions carefully to ensure complete and timely submission. Incomplete or late applications will not be accepted.
Selection Criteria
Candidates are evaluated based on the following measurable criteria (scored cumulatively but not all mandatory):
-
Final degree grade (Max 20 points): Grade multiplied by factor 2.
-
Time since degree completion (Max 30 points): 1 point per year since graduation.
-
Publications and conference contributions (Max 15 points):
-
5 points as first author,
-
3 points as second author,
-
1 point for other positions.
-
-
Second university degree (Max 15 points).
The Assembly, based on the proposal of the Coordinating Committee, defines specific details of the criteria application and includes them in the call for applications.
Evaluation and Registration Process
-
A complete list of applicants is compiled by the Secretariat.
-
The Selection Committee:
-
Rejects ineligible candidates,
-
Ranks eligible candidates,
-
Publishes a provisional ranking list,
-
Allows a period for objections,
-
Finalizes the list after reviewing any objections.
-
-
The final list is validated by the School Assembly and published with data protection regulations in mind.
In case of a tie, all tied candidates are admitted, provided the maximum number of admitted students is not exceeded. If it is, priority is given to the candidate with the higher degree grade.
Accepted candidates must confirm their enrollment within three (3) days. Failure to do so implies withdrawal, and the next candidate on the list is contacted.
Documents may be submitted in person, by post, or electronically. Registration is considered complete once all required documents are received.
Upon registration, students receive the academic calendar from the Secretariat.
Funding and Scholarships
Postgraduate students may be paid through funds from national/international research projects, co-funded programs (e.g., NSRF/ESPA), private funding, or institutional funds. They may also receive scholarships through national/international bodies or co-funded sources.
Scholarship contracts may be signed through DUTH’s Research Committee (ELKE), following relevant legislation and the ELKE Funding Guide.
Orientation for New Students
At the beginning of the 1st semester, DUTH’s Department of Physical Education and Sport Science organizes a welcome event for new students, including a tour of the department (lecture halls, auditoriums, library, computer labs, etc.) and an orientation covering:
-
the M.Sc. program,
-
university digital services,
-
Erasmus mobility opportunities.
Program Duration
The M.Sc. “Individual and Group Functional Exercise Programs” lasts one academic year, including two semesters and a summer period (intensive structure – 75 ECTS). This includes the preparation and submission of the Master’s Thesis.
To complete the program, a student must:
-
Fulfill the minimum required duration of study,
-
Successfully complete all academic requirements.
Maximum Duration: Students must finish their studies within twice the official duration of the program.
Exceptional Extension: A student may apply for an extension beyond the maximum period due to serious health reasons affecting themselves or a close relative (first-degree, spouse, or legal partner). The request must be submitted before the maximum duration ends and accompanied by appropriate documentation, including:
-
Recent family status certificate (if applicable),
-
Medical certificate from a public hospital (with the signature and seal of a department head).
The School Assembly evaluates and decides on such requests. Further extensions may be granted following procedures for part-time status or suspension of studies, provided the conditions continue to be met.
Note: Language proficiency certificates are evaluated based on the official ASEP (Supreme Council for Civil Personnel Selection) language proficiency table.
